Do you see what I see?

The picture below is from May 5th, when we had a piñata for a birthday. The piñata was actually left over from children's day the previous week, when it had been raining too much to be able to use it.

They have a piñata song, and your turn lasts as long as the song does. I think they forewent blindfolds to expedite the process (whoa, sometimes high school English vocab pops up in unexpected places).

And now to take a closer look:

This is an amazing woman who has been with the children's home for many, many years (my guess is 20 - but don't hold me to that). She rarely gets needed vacations, partly because she is the supervisor over all the children, but also because it is difficult to find the funds to get away.

These angelic looking children are the ones I get to tutor - white shirt and blue shirt to be specific. They are constantly provoking each other into fights, making helping with their already difficult homework all the more challenging. Thankfully, we do have good times smattered here and there too. And sometimes we even get homework done. ;-)

You may have noticed the woman above holding a stick. That is because it had just broken in half in this little guy's hands - stronger than he looks, eh? ;-) The boy in the yellow shirt and girl in pink pants are 2 of the 3 siblings he has here at the children's home.
Before coming to the home, his older sister (in the pink) was caring for her 3 younger siblings on her own.

And a bonus photo!

Did you notice the goats in the background? Their shepherdesses are interesting indigenous women who are accustomed to groups from the States and Canada wanting to take pictures of them. One wears a traditional multi-use cloth wrapped around her head, the other wears a red baseball cap. :-)
